Melvin Solman

Peacefully in his home in Toronto, on Monday, August 17th, 2026, at the age of 75. Beloved son of the late Jean and late Harry Solman. Brother and brother-in-law of Stanley and Freda, and Barry. Devoted uncle of Lori and Travis, Hayley and Kevin, Howie and Jamie, Jennifer and Nikhil. Adored great-uncle of Rosalie, Lielle, Griffin, Willa, Lucy, Cameron and Zoe.

Melvin was a highly valued professor of English and Communications at both Centennial and Humber Colleges, teaching students how to read critically and write properly. He took great pride in hearing how he made a difference in his students' education.

Melvin loved reminiscing about his early life on Harris Street in Ville St. Laurent. He especially loved capturing an audience to tell tales of Cooke/Solman family history. Sometimes these were accompanied by PowerPoint or printed pages. By far, his deepest passion was for his books.

He will be greatly missed by his family, friends, colleagues and students.
