It is with profound sadness that the family of MORRIS SCHACHNOW announces his sudden passing on Saturday, August 1, 2026, at the age of ninety-two.
Predeceased by his adored wife Shelley, who was the love of his life.
Loving father of Merle, Kenny and his partner Christina, and Charles. Adored Zaidy of Joshua & Samantha, Taylor, Stephanie, and Ashley. Morris was the proud great grandfather of Olivia. Dear brother-in-law of Ruth Mayberger Eliesen and Linda Mayberger. Lovingly remembered by Cindy Cherry.
Born in Vienna in 1934; the beginning of his long and storied life. Morris emigrated to America in 1939 with his dear parents Hermina & Solomon, they settled in Manhattan. Morris later served in the US Army, following which he lived in Miami briefly and then finally moved to Ottawa to marry Shelley.
A family man, a community man, an avid athlete, and a very dear friend to many. Morris’ presence will be deeply missed at Hillel Lodge which has been his home for the last number of years. We would like to express our most heartfelt gratitude to Ted Cohen, Marilyn Adler, and all the wonderful staff at Hillel Lodge who greatly enhanced Morris’ life.
