It is with great sadness that Richard’s family announces his sudden passing on Monday, August 10, 2026 at the age of 81. Loving partner of Karen Burke of Boca Raton, Florida, for over thirty years, Richard will be sadly missed by his sister, Judi Levine (Richard), his niece, Ali Gottlieb Corber (Mitch), his nephew, Jonathan Gottlieb (Natasha), Karen’s son Danny, his cousins, close friends, and, of course, Newcastle. Predeceased by his youngest nephew, Andrew Gottlieb. Special great-uncle to Jesse Corber, and Zachary and Livia Gottlieb.
The son of the late Michael and Vera Levine, Richard grew up in Belleville, Ontario, where he was part of the close-knit Jewish community. A brilliant student, he left Belleville at a young age to pursue his education, first at McGill University and then at Western. Having lived in Montreal for over sixty years, he nevertheless managed to retain the small-town values that were so important to him.
Although Richard struggled valiantly with Parkinson’s over the last several years, he continued to travel to Florida regularly to visit Karen. He was fiercely determined to live his life independently, which he did until the end.
