Holocaust Survivor

Peacefully, at the Donald Berman Jewish Eldercare Centre, March 13, 2026.  Rywa was a resilient individual who survived difficult war-time years in Poland and Russia.  She came to Canada and built a good life with her late husband Iser and is the cherished mother of Morris (Susie) and Henry (Joyce).  Rywa will be lovingly missed by her grandchildren, Hannah and Jonathan, sister and sister-in-law of the late Janek and the late Fela Waiswaser. She will always be remembered by her nephews and nieces, their children, as well as extended family in Canada, Israel and the USA. Rywa’s immediate family thank Dr. April Shamy and Dr. Doris Steg for the care Rywa received.  Thank-you too to the doctors, nurses, personal-care assistants, and staff at the Donald Berman Jewish Eldercare Centre for your compassionate care of Rywa. Linnie Ayento and Eden Urot have been valued caregivers and companions to Rywa. The family would most especially like to thank Linnie, who was Rywa’s longest serving caregiver and companion and provided much comfort over the last years with our mother.

Funeral Service from Paperman & Sons, 3888 Jean Talon St. W., on Monday, March 16 at 11:00 a.m. Burial at the Young Israel of Val Royal Congregation Section, Mount Pleasant Cemetery, Duverney. Contributions in Rywa’s memory may be made to the Jewish General Hospital Foundation (514) 340-8251.
