It is with deep sadness that the family of Sid Stevens announces his passing on Sunday, August 17, 2025, surrounded by the love of his family, at the age of eighty-five. Beloved brother and brother-in-law of Ted and Marilyn Stavitsky. Loving cousin of Sylvia and Casper Bloom, Brian Bloom and Randi Morris, Corey Anne Bloom, Carl Bloom, Samantha and Ashley Bloom, and Victoria Brown.

Born in 1940 in Montreal’s Plateau-Mont-Royal, Sid grew up in a multicultural environment that shaped his values of solidarity and compassion. In 1954, at just thirteen years old, he founded, alongside his friend Earl De La Perralle, a sports and recreation club that would grow into Sun Youth. For more than seventy years, he worked tirelessly to improve the lives of thousands of Montrealers. A visionary, a creative mind, and a tireless community advocate, Sid left an indelible mark through the creation of Quebec’s first food bank, innovative services for inner city youth and underprivileged families, and countless other acts of kindness. He will be fondly remembered for his humor, boundless energy, and unwavering love for his family. The family wishes to express heartfelt thanks to the staff of 5 and 6 South at Maimonides Geriatric Centre for their care and compassion as well as Johanne and Soula and the staff of Sun Youth.  Funeral service from Paperman & Sons, 3888 Jean Talon St. W., on Thursday, August 21 at 11:00 a.m. Burial at the Jewish Assistance Section, Kehal Israel Cemetery, D.D.O.
