WAJCMANN, Siegfried “Zyggy”

Peacefully, with his children by his side, on Friday, June 7, 2024, at the age of ninety-one. Beloved husband of the late Rebecca “Rivka” Calmanash z”l for fifty-seven years. Son of the late Nachman z”l and the late Tova z”l. Devoted father and father-in-law of David and Maura, Sarah and Barry Melnick. Cherished ‘Saba’ of Tyler and Billy, Sydney, Sam, Jamie, and Leanne. Proud ‘Saba-Raba’ of Bobbi and Teddi. Eldest brother and brother-in-law of Yehudith and the late Yisrael z”l Leeman, Jzchak and Ruth Wajcmann; and brother-in-law of the late Yossi z”l and the late Idica z”l Calmanash, the late Shimon z”l and the late Kutsa z”l Calmanash.

Zyggy (also known as Moishe) will be remembered for his gregariousness, charisma, and enthusiasm for new experiences. He had incredible joie de vivre. Zyggy had a storied life over three continents and several languages as an accomplished industrial, mechanical, and textile engineer known for his outside-the-box thinking. He shared his passion for all – theatre, film, music, travel, art, and artisanry – with his children and grandchildren. He will also be remembered for his active involvement both on and off the stage of the Dora Wasserman Yiddish theatre. Zyggy loved to learn, to spark learning in others, to tell stories, and to throw in a joke wherever possible. He always gave great advice. If you needed help, Zyggy was your guy. There was always an open seat at his table.

Zyggy will be dearly missed by his many nieces, nephews, and friends in Canada, the United States, Europe and Israel. Heartfelt gratitude to his devoted caregiver, Myra, and to the staff of the Teresa Dellar Palliative Care Residence. Graveside service on Monday, June 10 at 10:30 a.m. at the Beit Abraham Congregation Section, Kehal Israel Cemetery, D.D.O.
