It is with broken hearts that we announce the passing of Sylvia Smith after a valiant struggle, on Thursday, October 8, 2026. Beloved wife of the late Charles Smith. Adored mother and best friend of Ethel, beloved mother and mother-in-law of Sheryl and Clifford Sternberg, and devoted mother of Darryl. Beloved sister of the late Abraham, the late Pearl and the late Irving Soloway, Rhea and the late Tommy Cohen, and sister-in-law of the late Brenda and the late Lorne Pedvis. Devoted daughter of the late Sigmund and the late Bella Schwartz. Loving aunt of nine nieces and nephews and great-aunt of sixteen. Sylvia will be sadly missed by her cousins, many cherished friends and all of those whose lives she touched in North America and Israel.
Special thanks to Dr. Joshua Lubov for his kindness, care and compassion. Heartfelt appreciation to the special friends who gave continuous support to the family throughout her recent journey.
Funeral service from Paperman & Sons, 3888 Jean Talon St. W. on Sunday, October 11 at 11:00 a.m. Shiva at her home. Burial at the Adath Israel Poale Zedek Congregation Cemetery, de la Savane. An exceptional individual with an inner strength and a fierce determination who devoted her life to giving, acceptance, loving, kindness and charity. A true inspiration, a hero, mentor and role model to us all. A beacon of light that will shine eternally.
