It is with great sadness that the family of Veli Beinglas announces her passing at the age of 95 on Sunday, April 26th, 2026. Wife of the late Aleks. Loving and devoted mother of the late Léo (Marilyn Melnick). Adoring grandmother of Raphael Akiba. Dear sister of the late Judit Bar, of Israel.

Veli was a true survivor. From her adolescent years onwards, she was a caregiver who altruistically served others, putting herself aside. In her early 30’s, while keeping a home and family, she returned to school full-time studying in her 3rd language, in order to become a registered nursing assistant, ultimately working in palliative care for almost 25 years.

Throughout her life she lived creatively, whether it was sewing or knitting haute couture clothing, cooking delectable meals or baking the finest desserts that few would dream of attempting. Veli was a consummate host who nourished family and friends alike, drawing us in with her fine foods, her generous spirit and her welcoming smile. It was exciting to be invited into her sanctuary, to share a meal that would always be served with her casual finesse.

A well-developed curiosity inspired Veli to take on many challenges and ultimately, there were few things she could not do well.  She had an innate sense of elegance, was very stylish, and took great pride in her home as well as her wardrobe. She was passionate about the beauty of life around her and absorbed it through art, music, books and travel. Veli had an abiding love of nature, and enjoyed watching the sky, stars and moon.

Her beautiful eyes twinkled with light. Veli was warm and vivacious, easily drawing  people to her. She was feisty and independent, determined to remain autonomous and not to let growing older hold her back from her excursions, be they somewhere around the world, or in her later years, around town.

What an amazing lady! Veli will be so sorely missed.

Special thanks to her friend Jack, and to her devoted caregivers, Aida and Almaz as well as to the staff of Unit 4C at Jewish Eldercare CHSLD. They were all so attentive, caring, and kind, and they helped Veli blossom and smile these last 4 months.

As per Veli’s wishes, a private graveside service will take place on Wednesday, April 29th.
