Peacefully, surrounded by his loving family on the evening of Friday the 14 of November, 2025, at the age of eighty-eight. Devoted husband of the late Jo-Anne Solowey Shapiro. Beloved father and father-in-law of Laurie Shapiro and George Kfouri, Robert Shapiro and Jacqueline Saleh. Cherished Babbo of Mathew, Jasmine, Arianna, Jaime and Sienna. Son of the late Janet and the late Joseph Shapiro, QC. Dear brother and brother-in-law of Chana and the late Mark Shapiro, Barry and Monica Shapiro, and brother-in-law of Marilyn and the late Jerry Finklestein, Susan Solowey and Denis Wanamaker, the late Sharon and the late Gerry Gold. He will be greatly missed by his nieces, nephews, many dear friends and colleagues. The family is eternally grateful for the kindness, support and friendship shown to David by Sam Balatucan, Vangie Ramos, and the many doctors and nurses who cared for him along the way.
David earned his Bachelor’s in Political Science and Economics (B.A.) and later his Doctorate of Dental Surgery (D.D.S.) at McGill University followed by a Master’s in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery (M.S.) from the University of Iowa. His career spanned fifty-three years in private practice, including forty-two years on staff at the Montreal General Hospital and fifty-two years at the Jewish General Hospital in addition to teaching at the McGill School of Dentistry for more than forty years.
To those fortunate enough to know him, David Shapiro was synonymous with compassion, generosity, and an unwavering dedication to his community.
Funeral service from Paperman & Sons, 3888 Jean Talon St. W. on Monday the November 17 at 1:00PM. Burial at the Temple Emanu-El-Beth-Sholom Congregation section, Mount Royal Cemetery.
