It is with profound sadness that we share the passing of our beloved David Allan Vineberg on October 15 in Vancouver surrounded by loving family and friends. David was the loving partner of Sherry Stein for almost 35 years enjoying together all that life had to offer. He was predeceased by his parents Cecil and Sally Vineberg. He will be greatly missed by his kid brother Steve. He was the precious Dad of Rae Vineberg, Daryl Vineberg (Rebekah Blok), Mike Vineberg (Sara De La Rosa Aguiar), Peggy Margalit Carmi and beloved Stepdad to Randi Stein Slobin (Peter Slobin). He was the cherished Grandpa of Svetlana Bilerman, Oren and Gabe Vineberg, Eden Vineberg (Nairobi Torres), Emilia and Eva Vineberg, Dana Gradman Malka (Snir Malka) and step Grandpa to Justin and Olivia Slobin. David was great grandfather to Eitan Malka. David adored his cousins Irma and the late Stanley Strean, Sharry Calvert (John Calvert) and the late Frankie Strean. What can we say about this great man? He LOVED. If he loved you, he loved you fiercely with all his heart. A passionate champion, a best friend to many, offering endless listening, a supportive ear to anyone who needed him. He was simply a huge, open heart. An accountant by profession he was a partner at Richter, Usher Vineberg until he moved to Vancouver. It was at RUV that many lifelong inspiring partnerships and friendships were formed and have endured for decades. David was a prominent philanthropic leader in Montreal’s Jewish Community until he moved to Vancouver and was profoundly honoured to have served as the General Chairman of Montreal’s Combined Jewish Appeal in 1992. David skied all over the world with family and friends and loved running, only stopping when his knees said enough is enough. He then became an avid walker and took up snowshoeing in Vancouver, a city that he and Sherry came to love and whose endless beauty they appreciated every day. A practical dreamer, with uncanny street smarts, David was a lover of life, hugely charismatic, hilariously funny, kooky and fiercely loyal. A sun in most of our universes, he will be painfully missed by all who loved him. May his memory shine on forever as a blessing to all who were lucky enough to know him. The family is deeply grateful for the exceptional care he received from his outstanding medical team of Dr. Dan Ezekiel (and his assistant Irene Rota) as an outpatient at Vancouver’s BMT unit from Dr. Hannah Cherniawsky, Dr. Mickey Veljovic, Dr. Brandon Wong and especially the nurses who provided joy and entertainment as he went through two and half gruelling years dealing with the effects of acute myeloid leukemia.
Funeral will be held in Vancouver at the Schara Tzedeck cemetery located at 16656-60th Avenue, Surrey BC. Following the burial our dear friends Dessa and Arnie Sadovnick will host a reception for friends and family at their home at 5312 Laburnum Street, Vancouver.
