Artist. Photographer. Patient Teacher. Quirky mother. Devoted opera buff. Wife. Sister. Aunt. Friend. Joyce Rapoport died peacefully though broken hearted on Tuesday, May 14, 2024, at the Jewish General Hospital. Predeceased by her husband Max who died in February, her parents Anna and Michael, her twin sister Ruth (Abe) and her older sister Helen (Walter). She is survived by her daughters Nina (Denys) and Lisa (Chris); grandson Mercer; nephews Tony (Thea) and Adam, and nieces Lisa (Ira), Deidre (Alan), Andrea (Bernie), Amy (Julio) and their children.

Joyce was an unassuming, unjudgmental, and patient listener and observer with an immense imagination. She was an artist with a powerfully intuitive and supremely quirky view of the world and every little thing in it. She found its poetry and exuberance everywhere and shared it readily with those around her. She was a patient teacher and inspired people to try out art, get messy, and to explore and take artistic risk by just not acknowledging any boundaries.

Joyce was the quieter part of the Max and Joyce dynamic duo but with her fierce independence, bright colours, and big infectious smile just shone and stood out well beyond her words.

Funeral service from Paperman & Sons, 3888 Jean Talon St. W., on Thursday, May 16 at 3:00 p.m. Burial at the Baron de Hirsch #2 Cemetery Section (A3), de la Savane. Shiva at her home.

We will miss her gentleness, her view of the world and how it enriched ours, but we know she and Max can now get back to their dancing!
