With broken hearts we announce the passing of Mortimer (Morty) Fruchter at age 98. He was the very devoted son of the late Mary and the late Louis Fruchter. He was the much loved son-in-law of the late Eva and the late Louis Zidulka. Brother of the late Sukie and Martin Nadler and the late Lyla Rapkin. Brother-in-law of Dr. Arnold and Dr. Joan Zidulka and Mary Belle and Dr. Gerald Pulvermacher. Beloved husband of Ethelyne Zidulka for 61 wonderful years. They travelled the world and spent many winters in their home in Florida where they made very good friends. He was especially proud of his four beautiful daughters and their terrific husbands; Luana (Derrick Blumenthal); Marcy (Mitchell Massicotte); Mona (Wayne Holtzman); and Nadine. Much loved Zaidie of Ariel Gantman, Leigh Gantman and Josh Szulewicz; Tara Massicotte, Jared Massicotte; Carter Holtzman, Matthew Holtzman; Liam Lemay Fruchter, Dylan Lemay Fruchter, Remie Lemay Fruchter; Ryan Blumenthal and Diana Heckler. Great-grandfather of Lily and Sophie Blumenthal.
Morty was a very honest man who often said he was just lucky. He had a successful accounting practice with his partner the late David Stendal. They sold the practice and invested in several businesses including in the Rib N Reef Restaurant and Payge Plastics. He and David were also major shareholders in their friend the late Aaron Fish’s lock and key business Unican. He gave generously to many causes, especially Combined Jewish Appeal, The Jewish General Hospital, MADA Food Banks, The Donald Berman Maimonides Residence, and Magad David Adom for Israel. He will be greatly missed by his long time golf and bridge buddies, Morty Grossman and Norman Cohen and their wives, as well as his many nieces and nephews. Many thanks to his Doctors Barry Slapcoff and Laurence Rudski, and the CLSC René-Cassin.
