Surrounded by love & music, our one and only Reuben passed away February 15, 2026, 29 days shy of his 92nd birthday. Special love of the late Fran z’l, one-in-a-million father and father-in-law of Robyn, Tony & Adriana (Decker), Jennifer & Michael (Wolfe). Zaide extraordinaire of Adam, Emma, and Maya Wolfe, Yael, and Noam Decker-Croll. Predeceased by his parents, Abraham & Rose Croll, and brothers Saul and Herb Croll and sisters-in-law Roquel Croll and Jill Charkow. Brother-in-law of Shirley Croll, Jan Charkow and Marty and Pam Charkow. Reuben was an adored uncle and great-uncle to Alan and the late Martin Croll, Alvin and Bobby Croll, Sharron Schwartz, Marley and Martin Croll, Joshua Croll, Brenley Charkow, Geoff and Stacey Charkow, and Margot and Addy Charkow-Ross, Ben Croll and Léa Laügt, Annie Croll and Jes Rajdev. Proud great-great uncle to Julia Croll. Special thanks to Belinda for her unwavering support and care.
Dad found love again when he met Kenny, and together their life was filled with friends, music, food, travel, and entertaining. He was embraced by her family as well.
Born and raised on Villeneuve, Reuben attended Baron Byng High School and was a graduate of Sir George Williams University. Orphaned by the age of 15, and raised by his 3 beloved maiden aunties, Annie, Bea, and Sophie, his friends became his family, and he never forgot those who looked out for and cared for him. He carried many of these friendships throughout his life. Dad has always been able to find new friends even in the dark moments of his life and create love, humour, adventure (and always have dessert) in the spaces and places around him and hold on to them tightly.
With his brother Herb, they started Individual Investment Corp in 1958 and grew it into the trusted and successful mortgage lender that it is to this day. Reuben and Fran were early supporters of Ben Gurion University of the Negev, and his unwavering support of the university continues to this day.
Reuben was known for his sense of humour and generosity, which stemmed from his appreciation of how fortunate he was in life. Friends and family were included at every gathering, big or small, and Reuben lived by the motto – the more the merrier.
