Sam Minsky, age 82, died on Saturday, October 24, 2026 at Hennick Bridgepoint Hospital. He is survived by his much loved wife of 59 years, Elaine (nee Greenstein), his three adored children, Adam (Heidi Brown), Kate (Jesse Brown), and Emma; proud and cherished Zaidy of Noah, Jack and Hannah Minsky, and Isaac and Annie Brown.
Sam was predeceased by his parents, Bella and Usher Minsky, his sister, Paula, and his brothers-in-law David Greenstein and Joe Bultz. He leaves his loved brother, David (Cathy), sister-in-law Yolande Greenstein, and nieces and nephews.
Sam was born to Polish refugees fleeing the Holocaust. He spent his early years in a DP camp in Heidenheim, Germany, before he and his parents and siblings emigrated first to Sweden and then to Montreal, where he spent his formative years.
Sam and Elaine met in 1967 while working at the Y Country Camp in the Laurentians and later moved to Toronto with their young family. Sam touched many lives in his long career as a psychologist at the University of Toronto, first at the Psychiatric Service and then at the Counselling and Learning Skills Centre, where he was director for many years. After retirement from the university, he maintained a private practice.
Sam's devotion, insight, and intelligence enriched all our lives. He will be so deeply missed.
Many thanks to Dr. Arvanitis and Anita and for the wonderful care from the team at the Temmy Latner Centre for Palliative Care.
