Peacefully in her sleep, in Toronto, on Sunday, December 28, 2025, at the age of eighty-six. Cherished wife of the late Fred Goffman. Beloved mother of Jeffrey Cohen, Francine Cohen (Jean-François Pelletier) and Penny Goffman (Daniel Vazquez). Proud Bubby to Sophia, Jolie and Jaden.
Born on March 12, 1939, Sheila will be remembered for her bubbly personality. She adored music and would start singing and dancing whenever a favorite tune was played. Incredibly social, she could easily strike up a conversation, enjoyed humour and she had a boisterous laugh. She was always beautifully affectionate with her children and a warm and caring bubby to her grandchildren. Being a grandmother was a role she treasured.
Sheila attended West Hills High School and as a young adult did extensive volunteer work for B’nai Brith. She took on the roles of both Vice-President and Chairman of the Balfour Chapter. While she devoted much of her life to being a dedicated homemaker and raising her children, in her mid-life she did courageously return to school to pursue a certificate in Family Life Education and then determinedly completed her B.A. in Applied Social Studies. Becoming a family Life educator, when already in her 50’s, was something Sheila was incredibly proud of and was a good role model for her own daughters. An active shopper, she always took pride in her appearance and having a well decorated home. Sheila’s favorite hobbies included a passion for bridge, reading novels, and in her younger days, bowling. She thoroughly enjoyed musicals and was always game to travel. Relaxing on a Florida beach by the ocean is where she found true serenity.
Sheila’s memory will be held close by all who loved her, she will be deeply missed. Grateful appreciation to the wonderful and caring staff at L’Chaim Residence in Toronto and the various caregivers she had in Montreal.
