The beloved wife of the late Louis with whom she shared sixty-four loving blessed years, passed overnight Saturday, July 26, 2025 at one hundred and one years old. Her children Murray (Mary), Rhona (Effy), and Jagdish Kaur (Karta Purkh) will cherish countless memories of Anita. Likewise her grandchildren Jonathan and Dan (Kendra) and Guru Bhajan. She was step-grandmother to Tally (Bruno) and David; and step great-grandmother to Noah and Sofia. Sister of Charles (Lily), daughter of the late Sarah and the late Ruby, and beloved aunt of Linda (Jeff,) Pat (David) Steve (Veena) Angie (Derrick) and Deedee (Dan). And their children Mark and Doug; Tracey, Julie and Michael; Ariana; and Charlie. Cousin of Judy Roseberg, Howard Roseberg, Ruth and Irving Schwartz, Carla (Joey), Dana, Larry and the late Patricia Klugerman, the late Mary and the late Lou Roseberg, the late Stan Roseberg, the late Sydney and the late Jean Shugar and the late Arthur and the late Elise Shugar. Anita’s final years were filled with as much music as she could stand. The day programs for seniors at St.-Margaret and Parkhaven were havens of joy. Anita loved to cook and bake; much conversation centred on food. Like other snowbirds, her winter travels for decades to Florida and Arizona were a joyous source of many friendships and memories. Like husband Louis, she was involved for decades with the congregation of Young Israel of Ville-St.-Laurent. She was active in the sisterhood. He served as its president for many years. Just before he passed at 105 years, her dear life-long friend Phil Tanny recited the words of an old Yiddish tune to her as we sat outside his home:
“Vos iz gevehn, iz gevehn, izs nisht du.”
“What’s gone is gone. It is no longer here.”
Memories of Mom (Anita) will be warm ones. Her laughter and singing will endure in our hearts.
Wherever we may roam,
Over land and sea and foam,
We will always hear her singing her song
Show me the way to go home.
