It is with great sorrow that we mourn the passing of Mark Berkowitz on Wednesday December 24, 2025, a loving, devoted husband and best friend to Phyllis Shatz Berkowitz for over 30 years.
He was a loving father and father-in-law to Lesley Berkowitz and Kevin Hicks, David and Kirsten Berkowitz, and the late Steven Berkowitz, as well as Donna and Lloyd Mogul, Mitchell and Sigal Perlman, and Clifford and Renee Perlman. Mark adored and was proud of all his grandchildren and their respective accomplishments, namely Max Berkowitz and Olivia Berkowitz, Matt and Daria Mogul, Sari and Matt Lezon, Nicole Perlman, Alex Perlman and Rob Hovey, Lauren Perlman, and Ryan Perlman. He especially loved the next generation of great grandchildren: Ezra, James, Elliott and Avery. He was a beloved brother to Natalie and the late Henry Avrith, and Helen and Lawrence Diamond, and a cherished uncle to many nieces and nephews. Mark was son to the late Harry and Bessie (nee Miller) Berkowitz.
Mark approached life with great curiosity and enthusiasm in everything he did. He was a great debater, storyteller, and could be counted on to always spark an engaging conversation about any topic. He was passionate about life, politics, golf and especially loved spending time with his family and friends. Mark began his career as a mechanical engineer for Steinberg’s, and then pivoted to aeronautical engineering, which explains his love of planes and space. He went on to obtain a MBA from the Wharton School of Business and began a long career as a management consultant at Coopers & Lybrand, which afforded him the opportunity to travel the world.
Throughout his professional and personal life, Mark gave his time to better serve and give back to the communities in which he lived. He was an integral part of the task force brought in by the government to design, develop and implement Medicare in Quebec, a program that was highly successful and profitable when first launched. Following his professional consulting career, Mark continued to pursue entrepreneurial endeavors, before retiring at the young age of 61. While he enjoyed tinkering with model airplanes, improving his swing, rolling up his sleeves and undertaking projects around his (and others’) homes, in true Mark fashion, he needed a new challenge. He volunteered to join committees at Boca West, and quickly discovered a new passion. He served as President of both communities he lived in, and was elected to the Boca West Board of Governors, which he served on for 6 years.
Mark leaves behind a legacy that shall be everlasting to each and every person that knew him.
Funeral service from Paperman & Sons 3888 Jean-Talon West on Friday January 2nd. Burial at the Beth Zion Congregation Cemetery, Beaconsfield.
