VINEBERG, Michael

Peacefully, at home, on Tuesday, June 4, 2024. Michael was the son of the late Miriam and the late Philip Vineberg, OC, QC. He leaves behind his beloved wife, Anna, his son, Philip of whom he was very proud, his brother and sister-in-law, Robert and Rhoda.

Michael was a fascinating and unique man in many ways. Considered as one of the most brilliant lawyers of his generation, he was renowned for his expertise in both taxation and corporate law. For several decades, he was a partner at the firm now known as Davies Ward Phillips & Vineberg and thereafter was a senior advisor at Belvoir Investments. Michael was known for his professionalism, sense of humour and the warmth of his personality. During his career, Michael was an inspiration and mentor to many lawyers and was renowned for being dedicated to his clients and always passionate about finding the best solutions to complex problems for them. Michael lectured at McGill University in both corporate and fiscal law. He was a director of numerous Canadian, American and Israeli corporations, including Clariage Inc., Velan Inc., ECI Telecom, Blinds To Go Inc., Super-Sol Ltd., Canada Israel Development Ltd. and CBCI Telecom.

Michael had broad and deep interests in communal organizations, serving as a Governor of the Sir Mortimer B. Davis Jewish General Hospital Foundation and the Montreal General Hospital Foundation, as a director of Centraide and as the President of the Aisenstadt Foundation. He established the Canadian branch of the Anne Frank Foundation and was instrumental in bringing to Montreal one of the twelve saplings grown from the famous Anne Frank chestnut tree in Amsterdam.
