Peacefully, on Saturday, August 2, 2025, in his ninety-fifth year. Beloved and devoted husband of the late Dee Dee Mendlovitz. Loving father and father-in-law of Dr. Mark Smilovitch and Sharon Brodie, Kenny Smilovitch and L Vinebaum. Proud Grandpa of Michael, Daniel and Jonathan. Cherished partner of Libby Sabloff. Dear brother and brother-in-law of Belle and Leo Klompus, Hersh and Arlene Smilovitch, and of the late Sema Smilovitch. Son of the late Myer Smilovitch and the late Sarah Yaffe.
Ernie was born in Montreal and grew up in the celebrated St. Urbain neighborhood. He built a successful career as an insurance broker and was well-respected among his clients and colleagues. Ernie enjoyed sports, a good laugh and relaxing weekends in the country. He was recognized for his kind and gentle manner and will be missed by so many.
The family would like to thank the healthcare teams at the Herzel Family Practice, Geriatrics Unit at the MUHC, Palliative Care Unit at the Royal Victoria Hospital, and Liz Residence for their compassionate care.
